IOP is an addiction treatment level of care that fits well with working individuals’ schedules. They can seek recovery assistance while maintaining a career. For anyone who struggles with addiction but must keep working, IOP could serve as an answer. To learn more about this treatment option, please contact BoardPrep Recovery Center® today at 866.796.4720.
What Is IOP?
IOP stands for an intensive outpatient program, and this level of care serves as a part-time means of seeking addiction recovery. For three to four days a week, a few hours each day, patients participate in therapies to help them overcome addiction.
In fact, for some people, IOP is a stage that they reach after completing other more intensive, time-consuming levels of care as part of a full recovery program. The standard levels of care in addiction recovery programs may include:
- Quasi-residential care (or partial hospitalization program with housing)
- Partial hospitalization program (PHP) without housing
- IOP (Intensive outpatient program)
- Post-rehab monitoring program
Other patients may start at IOP depending on their recovery and lifestyle needs. For instance, professionals may require the more flexible timing of therapies with IOP to allow them to continue to keep their jobs and build their careers.
What Happens in an Intensive Outpatient Program?
IOP uses individualized therapies to address the needs of the patient and their family. Therefore, at BoardPrep Recovery Center®, IOP also stands for an individualized outpatient program. Every patient receives a customized plan and will have a unique experience in the IOP.
Patients may experience group therapy sessions with others with similar addictions or mental health concerns, especially if they thrive with peer support. However, other patients may get improved results through a greater focus on individual talk therapy. For some, family therapy sessions in the home may also benefit their recovery efforts.
All patients in IOP undergo consistent monitoring through regular testing to help them stay sober throughout the program. Those new to the program will test two times a week. However, after customization of an IOP, testing frequency may change per the patient’s needs.
Benefits of an IOP for Addicted Professionals
A substance use recovery designed for addicted professionals offers several benefits to this specific group of people, whether they choose IOP or need another level of care. Benefits include:
- Getting help with paperwork and insurance filing
- Respectful treatment
- A flexible recovery schedule
- A program tailored to their needs
First, those in the program get assistance with filing for Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) benefits to get time off from work without risking their jobs. They may also require assistance in filing for disability insurance claims, depending on their condition.
Second, professionals entering recovery through IOP receive respect and treatment as individuals. Therefore, the IOP at BoardPrep Recovery Center® can mitigate some feelings of shame that individuals may have for needing rehab.
Third, those in IOP only need to take off a few hours a week from work, or no time at all, depending on their work schedules, to attend recovery therapy sessions. By needing to take off less time from work, individuals can continue contributing to their jobs while getting the support and structure they need from an addiction rehab program.
Lastly, the IOP customizes treatment to the individual based on the types of therapy they need most to make headway in recovery.
